Looking after your child’s eyes is easy with C&I

We take children’s eye health really seriously at C&I. As a true family friendly practice we ensure that all of our Dispensing team are fully qualified Dispensing Opticians and not Optical Assistants or sales people.

If we were to take our children to the Optician, we would expect the best advice from qualified and knowledgeable staff which is why we have always ensured you, your children and family are in safe hands with appropriately qualified professionals at all stages of your visit to a C&I practice (not just in the eye examination room.)

Here are a few Q&A’s about children’s eye care and how we can help 🙂

Q: When should I take my child for their first eye test at C&I?

A: We can see children from quite a young age. We’d recommend an eye test for all children before they start school but please call our teams for advice at any age.

Q: What signs do I need to look out for to show they need help?

A: There are lots of little signs that your child might need an eye test. We have compiled a list to look out for below:

  • Screwing up their eyes,
  • Acting clumsy, maybe bumping into things,
  • Needing to sit closer to the TV
  • Refusing to read or having difficulties reading,
  • Complaining that the text on the page does not stay in a straight line,
  • Seeming to be an introvert or a day dreamer,
  • Acting in a disruptive way or having a short attention span,
  • Complaining of headaches
  • Closing one eye when out in the sunshine

Q: How much does a children’s eye test cost?

A: All children under the age of 16 are entitled to a free NHS eye examination. They also get a contribution towards the cost of eye-wear if it is needed. Teenagers between 16-18 and in full time education are also entitled to the same.

Q: How often should my child have an eye examination?

A: After an eye examination our Optometrist will advise you regarding how often we will need to see your child for an eye examination. Everyone is an individual and will depend on their visually needs.

We hope that helped. Feel free to pop in, call us tweet, DM, email – you choose 🙂
